Look what found its way to Choma...

Yesterday our good friend Christine came to class wearing a tee shirt from a sponsored swim in aid of Gwenllian Ward and special care baby unit in Bronglais hospital, Aberystwyth.
She was not given this by anyone we know.
We see many tee shirts form around the world from fund raising events or schools or clubs.  One friend has a tee shirt from the Helsinki marathon.  This is the first one we've seen from Wales though.
We were very excited!

After the Rain

This is the result of the rain that we have had since we arrived:

This is the field of maize we showed you in February.  Not as good as it should be, but very much better than had been feared.

School Quiz Day

On Friday last week the school held their Quiz Day.  Pupils were able to show what they have learned, with spelling tests followed by tests in maths, science, English, among others.
Ready for action

Caroline, facing a spelling challenge

Grade 6 getting very excited as they challenge Grade 7

I never imagined that spelling could be so exciting, but the children were given some difficult words and rose to the challenge.

The quiz was followed by a netball match against a nearby school.

They make it look so easy!

This is what happens when we score - mass pitch invasion and triumphant dancing at the opposing supporters!

Mochipapa - in blue - one the netball.  5-0 and 22-8!

Afternoon Classes

As we said, our afternoon classes have moved to the church building.  We split into two groups according to ability, but even so, each group has a wide range.
Yesterday we had 21 pupils.

Afternoon Classes Growing

On Tuesday we had 17 students crammed into our tiny house, making a cake in our English lesson.

Yesterday we re-located to the church.  We had plenty of room and were able to split into 2 groups according to ability.  We had 20 students.

The draw back of this is that it is a long way from the kettle!!

We Can Stay!

We went to Lusaka this week to collect our work permits so we now have leave to stay until January 19th 2018!

We are thankful that it has been so quick to get the permits and that our trip to Lusaka was so simple.  We had a lift early in the morning and got the bus back in the evening.  When we arrived in Choma, we were greeted by a massive thunder storm followed by this rainbow.
