The story so far: 2014

In January 2014 we returned for a month.
Amos went with Pastor Sichikata to the Education Board to talk about the government taking over responsibility for funding the school, an on-going issue.

We spent some time in the school library, helping the children with their reading.

We had our own little house, which was perfect.

We entertained friends

The Mwapona support group showed us another of their HIV/AIDS awareness dramas

And their teachers taught us about living positively with HIV

The story so far: 2012

This time we went in November and the rainy season had begun, so there were no literacy classes since everyone was too busy in their fields and cultivating whatever small patch of ground they had for growing food.

The Mwapona Support Group were preparing for World Aids Day on December 1st.
Here some of the ladies are rehearsing one of the dramas that they do to spread awareness of some of the issues relating to living with HIV/AIDS

We attended the school prize giving day at the end of their academic year.

During this trip, we began to have chitonga lessons so that we would be able to speak a little more than simple greetings.  Our success in this has been variable, although we couldn't have had a better teacher!

The story so far: 2010

In 2010 we went back without Rose.

This time we held an adult literacy class between us, having done a TEFL course in the mean time, to equip ourselves.

We met with the Mwapona Support Group again and encouraged them in their regular lessons

And they encouraged us with a meal at the home of one of their members

We visited the school again

And the hammer mill (sponsored by St Michael's church).  Profit from the hammer mill is used in the churches compassion ministries.

We met with some of Primach's sponsored children

The story so far: 2009

In August 2009 our daughter Rose took us to Choma in Zambia for a visit to where she had been working for 6 months in a primary school, teaching English.

On that visit we met the Mwapona HIV/AIDS Support Group and they taught us how to make bricks.

We helped them with their literacy classes, through the medium of Welsh Cakes!

We worked with a local charity, Primach, which aims to support families through education, child sponsorship and small business ventures.  (Here Amos is chatting to some of the sponsored children.)

We were introduced to the school - the Mochipapa Road Pilgrim Wesleyan School.
